2001 Toyota Prius Oil Service Light Reset
The following guide will show you how to reset the oil service warning light on the 2001 Toyota Prius.
If you drive a first or second-generation Toyota Prius then you will most probably have come across the “Maintenance Required” warning at some point.
What causes this warning to show up is the number of miles since your last oil change passing a certain number (usually 10,000 as recommended by Toyota themselves).
Once you have actually flushed the oil from your Prius you will find that the dashboard is still plagued by the “Maintenance Required” warning message.
To get rid of it you need to perform a few simple steps while sitting in the driver’s seat that you can find broken down below:
- Park your Prius somewhere safe where you won’t cause a nuisance to other road users.
- Now turn on the car without starting the engine, essentially turning it on without depressing the brake pedal at the same time.
- On the buttons pad on the right-hand side of the steering wheel, you will see a button labeled TRIP – press this to view the overall mileage for the car (not the “trip” miles travelled).
- With the mileage display selected from step 3 you now need to turn the car completely OFF.
- Hold down that TRIP button again, continuing to hold the button while you turn your Prius back ON again (without starting the engine like before).
- You can release the TRIP button once you have seen the miles being displayed on the screen reduce down to zero on the trip display.
