2012 Toyota Prius Oil Service Light Reset
The following guide will show you how to reset the oil service warning light on the 2012 Toyota Prius.
In your Prius Mk3. you may at some point notice a warning come up on the dashboard asking you to service the oil (maybe with the text “Oil Maintenance Required“).
This is a request put in to the car by the Japanese automaker Toyota that is triggered after a certain number of miles.
They recommend you change the oil to get rid of the contaminants that build up in it over time and reduce its effectiveness.
Once you have actually changed the oil in your Prius for the right type (which you can find here) you will then need to manually reset the “Maintenance Required” light by doing the following:
- Make sure you are parked somewhere safe with the car turned completely off.
- Now turn the car on using the power button but don’t start the motor – don’t push down on the brake pedal while turning the car on to avoid starting the engine.
- Push the TRIP button on the steering wheel to cycle through the options until you get to “TRIP” on the display in front of you.
- Switch the car OFF completely.
- Now you are going to want to start the car again without starting the engine like before BUT this time hold down the “km/h MPH” button at the same time. Hold these buttons down and you should see the number of miles until the next maintenance drop – let go once it reaches 0000000.
